I live in San Diego and have yet to find an Endo that specializes in pituitary issues. However, I have found that with my current endo, if I present him with some valid documents and research, he is willing to try. I'm panohypo, and started GH last month even though my IGF-1 was in normal range. I was able to convince my endo to start GH by giving him a research article that nailed my issues. The article is: "Evaluation and Treatment of Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline by Mark E. Molitch". Here's the link to the PDF:
www.endocrine.org/~/media/endosociety/Fi...Guideline-NonCME.pdf

Here's another article that discusses the link between fatty liver and GH deficiency:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22535644

While I haven't found an endo in San Diego yet for pituitary issues, I have found that my best choice has to do my own research. I've been the Cedar Siani in LA for consultations with pituitary specialist, but it's just not realistic for me to try and receive treatment in LA. The distance, out of pocket costs and lab testing issues when you have an HMO caused me to be creative and try and make my current endo work for me.

Hope this helps

Kelly did you have to pay out of pocket for your care and if so what did it cost. I have an HMO and will need to go to Los Angeles to find a specialist as there isn't on in San Diego. I've been trying to avoid the trip but it appears to be my only option since my endo thinks IGF-1 is the gold standard. Thanks Mike

I think you need a new endocrinologist since I read that your IGF-1 can be normal even if you have GH deficiency.

Hi Mike,

I have been looking for information that you could print out, but aside from the email that I was sent, I haven't been able to find anything. (I will keep looking though.) One suggestion I have is for the doctor that treats you. There is a book available, Pituitary Disorders: Diagnosis and Management, this book is written by some of the world's pituitary experts. I provides doctors like yours with the information necessary to treat pituitary patients. I think you should recommend it to your doctor so that he/she can provide you with the care that you deserve. Here is a link to our book store where it can be purchased.

There is also a Pituitary Patient Resource Guide which could be helpful for you. The National Institutes of Health may also have information that you could use. Go to their home page and do a search for GH Deficiency, they have quite a few pages that come up. Here is a link to their home page:

I hope this helps and if I come across anything that may be helpful, I will pass it along.

Take care,
Tammy

Thanks Tammy I'm continuing to look for reliable information to print out and provide my Dr. thou I don't really have extra money to pay for the GH. The mental clarity you spoke of is what I'm searching for I'm 16 years post surgery and all to often can hardly stand being inside my self and so wish there was a Pituitary expert here in San Diego the second largest city in California
