It is perfectly acceptable and actually recommended to learn as much as you can about a potential pituitary disorder. The more you know the better equipped you will be to ask the right questions and get the right care. The pituitary is very complex and controls so much of our day-to-day functioning that it is important to have the best care possible. If it is determined that you have a pituitary tumor or disorder we recommend that you see a pituitary specialist or go to a pituitary center. In the meantime, there is a great deal of information on our website about everything from finding the right doctor to questions to ask and testing to request. I have included some links below to get you started.

This section is about the different pituitary disorders and includes information about symptoms and possible treatment options. It has a list of the different types of tumors and disorders on the top right and those tabs link to pages with more information . There is a page for Prolactinomas and in some cases an excess of ACTH could possibly be Cushing's. I suggest you read both of those pages to see if any you have any of those symptoms.

This section has several articles in it that are designed to help you in the beginning stages:

We also have a list of pituitary specialists and pituitary centers on our website. These doctors have the additional training in pituitary related disorders and can determine your treatment options. Most doctors, even some endocrinologists do not have the training necessary to successfully treat pituitary disorders. You want to make sure that your doctor has extensive experience treating people with pituitary disorders, you want to be the kind of patient they see every day not their rare patient.

Here are links to our physicians and pituitary centers:

This is a lot of information to absorb, but hopefully it will help you navigate a little better. We are not medical professionals so we cannot answer medical questions, however we are here to help where we can. If you have any questions or would like more information feel free to contact us at (805) 499-9973 or via email at tammy@pituitary.org.

ACTH and Prolactin levels both high was created by Blue

I haven't been able to find much out about this but I was told two days ago that I have abnormally high levels of both ACTH and prolactin. My doctor said this most likely means I have a tumour. She didn't say much and I was sent to get repeat blood tests. I am unable to go back and get my results for over a week. It has me stressing out a little not knowing anything so I was wondering if anyone has any information that I can absorb before I see my doctor just so I have some idea of what it possibly could mean.

I have discovered that usually people have high prolactin levels if they have a pituitary tumour but I haven't found anything that also links in ACTH. Also all my other hormone levels were normal. And a year ago all my levels were normal but now ACTH and prolactin are more than double what they once were.

I know that I shouldn't be searching for answers and should just wait until my appointment but I just want an idea of what this possibly means.

Thank you
