At the Forefront of ResearchThe OSUCCC – James is one of only 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation as designated by the NCI, a designation that we have maintained through competitive renewal since 1976. After the site review for our most recent renewal, we earned the NCI's highest ranking, "exceptional," and received a five-year, $23 million NCI support grant. Ranked by U.S.News and World Report as one of the top hospitals in the nation for cancer care, The James is one of only 11 DRG- or PPS-exempt institutions in the United States.At Ohio State, we've helped pioneer the transdisciplinary, multimodality approach to cancer treatment and patient care. As a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, we help establish national guidelines and standards of cancer care.The OSUCCC – James has more than 200 oncologists, all of whom specialize in just one type of cancer, and it's that sub-specialization and expertise that helps lead to more productive integration with cancer research and, ultimately, to better outcomes. We manage hundreds of active or pending cancer trials, many of which are initiated by OSUCCC – James investigators. Our genetic- and molecular-based research helps us understand each patient's unique cancer and develop and deliver the targeted therapy that leads to better outcomes, fewer side effects and more hope.Our disease-site groups combine the expertise of surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, researchers and others to collaborate to provide patients with the latest in cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. This new 21-floor hospital will help revolutionize the way cancer prevention and care are provided in this nation, with world-class oncologists and cancer researchers working side-by-side to unlock the mysteries of why we get cancer and, using those discoveries, move from treating cancer to preventing it from ever occurring.The patients served by the new hospital will find themselves at the intersection of research, education and sub-specialized care.
