The USF-TGH Pituitary Program is a tertiary and quaternary referral center specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of pituitary and hypothalamic disorders. Through a multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, neuro-oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists, the program provides comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with some of the most multifaceted pituitary and hypothalamic conditions.
The program serves as a destination for complex surgical interventions from world-renowned expertise, with neurosurgical specialists experienced in advanced endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery and other minimally invasive skull base techniques used to treat challenging pituitary tumors and related disorders. This highly collaborative model has earned recognition by the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS) as a Multidisciplinary Team of Distinction, highlighting the elite partnership established by USF Health and Tampa General to deliver integrated, specialized care, research, and innovation for patients with complex pituitary and hypothalamic disorders.
As part of a leading academic healthcare system, the USF-TGH Pituitary Program cares for a full spectrum of pituitary disorders, including pituitary adenomas, acromegaly, Cushing disease, prolactinomas, craniopharyngiomas, and other sellar and parasellar lesions. Patients benefit from individualized treatment plans, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and seamless coordination across specialties. The program is committed to advancing pituitary care through clinical excellence, education, innovation, and research.
Treatment Programs
The USF-TGH Pituitary Program provides comprehensive evaluation and management for patients with pituitary and hypothalamic disorders. Patients have access to advanced endocrine testing, specialized imaging, comprehensive medical management, advanced radiation therapy including True Beam IMRT, CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, and minimally invasive endoscopic surgical approaches for pituitary and skull base tumors.
A cornerstone of the program is its expertise in complex pituitary and skull base surgery. Neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists work together to perform advanced transsphenoidal procedures and other specialized skull base interventions for patients requiring highly complex care. As a destination referral program, the team treats patients from across the region and beyond who require sophisticated surgical management of pituitary tumors and other sellar and parasellar lesions.
A multidisciplinary clinic model allows patients to be evaluated by endocrinology and neurosurgery specialists in a coordinated setting, supporting efficient treatment planning and shared decision-making. The program also offers an Endocrine Day Hospital for specialized dynamic endocrine testing, along with dedicated nurse navigation to support patients throughout their care journey. Long-term follow-up, survivorship services, and support resources help ensure continuity of care beyond treatment.
Research Programs
The USF-TGH Pituitary Program is committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of pituitary disease through multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical innovation. Specialists across endocrinology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, neuro-oncology, and related fields work together to evaluate outcomes, optimize care pathways, and advance evidence-based treatment strategies for both medical and surgical management of pituitary and skull base disorders.
Through the integration of research and clinical care, the program continually seeks opportunities to improve patient outcomes, refine advanced surgical techniques, and incorporate emerging advances into the management of pituitary and skull base disease.
Educational Programs
Education is a central component of the USF-TGH Pituitary Program. The program provides multidisciplinary learning opportunities for medical students, residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and practicing clinicians, with particular emphasis on the comprehensive management of pituitary and skull base disorders.
Educational activities include the annual Pituitary Center Symposium, established in 2025, as well as a weekly Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board and a biweekly Pituitary Tumor Board. These forums promote collaboration, case-based learning, and the exchange of expertise among endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, and other specialists dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with pituitary disease. The program's collaborative approach, recognized by the North American Skull Base Society as a Multidisciplinary Team of Distinction, also provides a unique environment for education and training in advanced pituitary and skull base care.
