The Barrow Pituitary Center evaluates and treats patients who are suffering from neuroendocrine disorders and pituitary tumors such as adenomas, prolactinomas, craniopharyngiomas, Cushing’s disease, acromegaly, and gigantism. Patients are treated through a multidisciplinary approach that draws on the expertise of specialists in many disciplines, including endocrinologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and radiation oncologists, among others.

Experience is key to the successful evaluation and treatment of neuroendocrine disorders, and Barrow’s staff has more experience with treating patients with pituitary disorders than any other facility in the Southwest, performing as many as 200 pituitary surgeries every year.

The Barrow Pituitary Center collaborates with the following departments within St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Barrow Neurological Institute to provide a full spectrum of neuroendocrine services:

Barrow Gamma Knife Center
Barrow Skull Base Center
St. Joseph’s Hospital Radiation Oncology Department
Neurobiology Research Laboratory
St. Joseph’s Hospital Laboratory
Barrow Neuropathology Department
Neuroradiology Imaging Department
Barrow Endovascular Department for inferior petrosal sinus sampling (IPSS)

Educational Programs

The Barrow Pituitary Center offers a variety of educational programs. Neurosurgical faculty at Barrow train neurosurgical residents to perform transsphenoidal surgery and to treat pituitary disorders during their Pituitary rotation on the pituitary service. In addition, endocrinology fellows from the Phoenix City-Wide Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship program also rotate through the Barrow Pituitary Center.

A neuroendocrine clinical conference provides a monthly format for the team to collaborate on difficult pituitary tumors and other neuroendocrine disorders.
